Roll A Picture

Materials:

2 x Dice
Drawing Paper
Pencils, markers

Each child rolls the 2 dice. This gives them numbers which form maths problems. The answers in turn specify pre-decided parts to be included in their drawing.

Eg. The child rolls a 5 and a 3. This then becomes 5+3, or 5-3, or 5x3 etc. You can either allow the child to choose what the sum is, or allocate.

If it becomes 5+3, the child does the sum =8. You may have decided that this will specify the number of cows in a picture, eg. 8... or the number of straight lines, or arms on a creature.

They then roll again, and do the same for another drawing component... maybe, houses, or triangles, or eyes, or whatever you have pre-decided. Repeat until all components you wish have been worked out.

Using all of the components, the child then draws their picture, adding any other bits they like.

For an older child you could roll more times, or use more dies, to make the problems harder.
