Can You Draw What I Draw?

Begin with one person drawing a fairly simple drawing.

Perhaps something like a house and yard, or a barnyard, or a ship on the ocean. Whatever you decide. Just don't try to make it too complex for a first attempt.

Next, give your partner a pencil and paper.

Don't allow him/her to see your drawing. You could use something between you to block the view, or face away from each other, back to back.

Slowly, give your partner instructions of what to draw, in an attempt to have them duplicate your drawing.

After describing the whole picture, compare yours with theirs.

How similar were they?

What differences did you notice?

How could your instructions have been more precise in order to make them more similar?

Are there differences that would seem unavoidable, as no amount of description would have made them the same?

In what ways did your partner visualise things differently to you?  How can you compensate for that?

Now, swap and have your partner draw the first picture (of a totally different scene), then give you instructions.

Did it work better this time?

Try it once or twice more each, using the things you have learnt. Make them progressively more complex.

Can you produce almost identical pictures consistently?
