Have you ever seen fancy painted rubbish bins?

Create your own spectacular design for yours!

First, check with an adult that it is ok to paint your bin.

Note:  If it is a council owned bin, you should probably check with your council (although washable paints may not be a problem with this.)  They may be happy to approve, as long as the design is appropriate.

Before beginning, either you or an adult should clean the outer area of your bin well, with disinfectant.  It needs to be clean for the paint to stick to it, and for hygiene reasons when handling it.

Leave the bin to dry well while you plan your design.

What do you want your bin to represent?

Perhaps your feelings about something like conservation and the beauty of nature...

Or something to represent your family...

Perhaps a design revolving around your house number...

Maybe a mystical magical scene...

Or an intriguing geometric design.

Draw your design on paper as a pattern.

Then, redraw it onto your bin using chalk, or a marker, referring to your pattern.

Now you can paint your design onto the bin.

You can use paints such as poster paints or acrylics, which will come off fairly easily if you want to change your design later.  Be aware that these may also wash off in the rain in time.

Or you can use a more waterproof outdoor type paint.

Remember to protect your clothes, and whatever surface the bin is standing on if you don’t want it to have paint spatters!
