WEDDING THEMES

Your wedding is often one of the most important days of your life, so why not make it especially memorable by giving it a unique wedding theme?

Many people desire more from their wedding than the traditional church ceremony followed by a nice meal. Make your wedding *your day*... plan something that makes it especially yours, that says something about your fantasies or interests, that brings alive all those dreams you may have had of your wedding day as a little girl. Just because you have grown up it doesn't mean you have to push those thoughts aside... create a dream wedding and precious memories to last a lifetime! Be creative and joyous... don't kow-tow to tradition or worry about "what others think". It's your day... make it so!

Here is a list of wedding theme ideas that may help get you started in working out what might be the wedding you've always imagined. Feel free to use what you like, combine, or go off on a different slant that stems from one of them.

A Waterfall Wonderland Wedding (This is what our wedding was like!)

Find a spectacular waterfall and get married at the foot of it, surrounded by beautiful forest, misty spray, birds, nature!

Nature complimentary colour scheme, trailing leaves and flowers on tables, flowers in hair, soft lilting music, or natural sound effects with or without music. Handmade invitations with real leaves or pressed flowers.

Wedding cake with real flowers, or little forest animals.
Spectacular waterfall wedding theme.

A Wish Upon A Star Wedding

Get married on a fine, clear night (well, plan the best possible time to achieve this!) under the stars, preferably somewhere peaceful and out of heavily populated (light pollution) areas, so that the stars are brighter.

Have telescopes set up for guests viewing. Colour scheme of midnight blue, silver, gold. Tiny foil stars scattered over tablecloths, starry decorations, glow in dark stars.

Music including songs about stars, moon, space etc. Star shaped invitations. Multi sized stars for cake tiers, or stars strewn across the cake.

A Fairytale Wedding

Castles and moats...maybe a dragon or two... Prince and Princess... knights, Lords, Ladies... rich, fabrics, intricate embroidery, jewel encrusted... maybe a court Jester... huge roasts, plentiful banquet... Fanfares... Royalty, Pomp, and Splendour!

Hobby Related Wedding

Do you, or your husband-to-be have a hobby or keen interest that could be used as the basis for your wedding? Creating your wedding around something you really enjoy makes it personal and special. With a bit of imagination, almost any hobby/interest could bcornerstone of your special day:

Do you love a certain type of car? Or model railways? Or aircraft?
Is woodworking a passion? French cooking? Quilting?
What about your house full of Alaskan Malamutes... or Rainbow Lorikeets?

Special hideaway wedding theme. Do you keep returning to a favourite holiday place... your own special hideaway?
Do you volunteer somewhere with a passion... a National Park? A Botanic Gardens? A Zoo? A historic mansion?
Do you collect dolls, or native artefacts, models?
Do you belong to a Society For Creative Anachronism... a Highland Dancing group... horse riding club?

How could you incorporate your hobby into your wedding? Be creative... and adventurous!

A Nationality Wedding

What nationalities do you have hidden away in your ancestory? Do any of them inspire and fascinate you? Or do you just have a keen interest in a particular country or a segment of its traditional inhabitants?

Maybe you would like your wedding to represent this, including traditional dress, food, decoration and maybe even marriage customs.

A Seasonal Wedding

What about celebrating whatever season you are getting married in by having a wedding created around the traditional ideas of that season.

Summer- warm colours, fruits, maybe a beach or pool side wedding.

Autumn- use the colour of autumn leaves, scatter autumn leaves on tables, if you have a forest or park nearby which colours up dramatically in Austumn, why not hold it there!

Winter- whites and cool blues, ice sculptures, *snow* and *snowflakes*, cosy open fire.

Spring- greens and florals, flowers everywhere, scattered petals, floral scented candles.

Time Period Wedding
Do you have a favourite romatic time period in history?

Clothes you think are wonderful, music that evokes a special feeling, romantic tales of the time?

Victorian? Medieval? The '60's? Ancient Egypt? Roman Empire?

Have clothes that fit the time, decorations, food and music to suit.
