Quorn is a country town which still retains much of its history and old world charm. Wide streets, historic old buildings still in use, and its main point of fame- the restored Pichi Richi Railway, which is now a well loved tourist railway.

Established on the Great Northern Railway line in 1878, Quorn these days is a central hub for its surrounding pastoral community, as well as a services and supply point for travellers, and a tourist destination in its own right.

A variety of accommodation is available in the town or on surrounding properties, including bush camping, caravan park with ensuite cabins, self contained apartments and holiday houses, B & B's and a residential camp for groups- also with self contained cottages for holidaymakers- set in the spectacular mountain country of Pichi Richi Pass.

Services in Quorn include a visitor centre, art galleries, swimming pool in warmer months, service station with mechanical repair services and well stocked shop, general store, hotels and a variety of shops including takeaway. There is a wonderful park full of old farming machinery sure to delight young and old history buffs alike.



Things To Do In and Near Quorn


* Pichi Richi Railway - Offers trips on various weekends during the year (does not operate in hotter times) and some school holidays. Also offers special event trips and private hires, and catering can be arranged. You can also become a volunteer and take part in the maintenance and operation of the railway. * Powell Gardens - A Botanic Garden showcasing around 200 plant species from the local area.

* Pichi Richi Camel Tours - A variety of tours from half hour or one hour rides, to candlelight dinner tours, and for the more adventurous 2 or 4 day camel safaris.

* Quorn Native Fora Reserve - Plants from both the arid regions and the Adelaide Hills area.

* Kanyka Station Ruins - Extensive ruins in relatively good condition, this is all that remains of the huge Kanyka Station which covered some 945 sq km back in the 1850's. A short stroll along the track leads you to Death Rock and waterhole, which was of great significance to the Aboriginal people.

* Wonderful drives and walks - Devil's Peak, Mount Brown Conservation Park, Dutchman's Stern Conservation Park, Warren Gorge, Buckaringa Gorge and Proby's Grave.

Quorn is also a good base for exploring other parts of the Flinders Ranges and not far from bustling Port Augusta which has basically anything you would need such as big chain supermarkets and department stores, major fast food outlets, restaurants, wide range of accommodation, several service stations ususally with reasonable fuel prices compared to many outback locations, many and varied small shops, a cinema, and a wonderful information and interpretive centre called the Wadlata Outback Centre.
