Air Conditioners
Air conditioning refers to any form of cooling that changes the condition of the air, usually for a more comfortable air temperature. Generally air conditioning means cooling and sometimes dehumidifying of indoor air via refrigeration. Air conditioners usually run on electricity but you can also get gas air conditioning units.
Through The Wall Air Conditioners
Through the wall air conditioners work the same as window air conditioners however, they fit through a hole in the wall and are normally rear vented. They are usually used to cool a single room, or area, and require a sleeve in your wall to support the weight. (Also come as reverse cycle air conditioners.)
Window Air Conditioners
Window air conditioners are usually used to cool units or one to two rooms at most. Room air conditioners extract heat and moisture from the room and cool and dehumidify it and return it to cool the room. The blower takes the warm air and sends it through a filter to the outside.
The window air conditioner is a single self-contained unit with the cool part of the air conditioner in the room and the hot part extruding outside of the window. (Also come as reverse cycle air conditioners.)
Portable Air Conditioners
Portable air conditioners offer more flexibility than other window air conditioners or wall air conditioners. Often portable air conditioners have wheels and are under a metre tall. Since the air conditioner is contained in one unit the hot air needs to ventilate through a hose or tube to outside usually through a window or similar available gap that can be confined to the hose/pipe size (as to not let the hot air back in). Condensation (moisture) is either collected in a bucket, redistributed through a hole, or recycled through the air for extra cooling.
Mini-Split or Ductless Air Conditioners
Like central air conditioners these units have a split design but use air ducts making the units easier and less expensive to install than central air conditioning. The mini-split has at lease one unit that sits inside and that is the air handler. The compressor sits outside of the home and the air handler sits inside.
Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners (PTAC)
PTAC units are a separate encased combination of heating and cooling that is normally mounted through a wall. It has refrigeration components and forced ventilation and utilised reverse cycle refrigeration as its main heating source and generally has another heating supplement. This type of unit is generally larger that a typical through-the-wall air conditioner and is often seen in motel rooms and apartment buildings.

Cheapest Air Conditioner
When you want to buy air conditioning you may want to track down the cheapest, but be aware the cheapest air conditioner may not meet all of your needs including warranty and service.
Budget air conditioners may serve some conditions where money is tight and you have a fairly limited space to cool.
Make sure you know what you are buying when you buy discount air conditioners and that your requirements are being met. |
The way people are currently getting the best deals for air conditioners is to research online by checking out online shpos that sell the types of air conditioners that you are looking for. Once you have decided on the exact air conditioning unit that you want to buy you can then cross reference those online shops for the best price (taking into account delivery costs and any other costs that may need to be incurred for the sale that you require ie. extended warranty etc.) This should allow you too to get the best priced air conditioner.
