Learning to dance has great advantages

Some of the good points of taking up dancing are:

  • Can be beneficial for specific medical conditions
  • Suppleness, stretchabilty
  • Develops good posture and graceful movement
  • Developing a sense of rhythm
  • Learning step sequences helps keep the mind active and quick
  • Enjoying the creativity, music and movement
  • Builds confidence, often offering a chance to perform or show off skills learnt
  • Certain dance styles allow participants to progress through exams, or competiton dancing, if desired
  • If you have exceptional talent and dedication, dance can become a career.
  • Pretty costumes, sparkles, make-up (little- and big -girls often especially like this part)
  • A social activity, in the company of others who enjoy the same style. Particularly in the case of pairs type dancing, dance classes can be a good place to meet new people- and maybe even develop a relationship.
  • Both women/girls and men/boys can take part in dance. Some types are especially excellent for this, such as ballroom etc, as couples dance together. Often couples can also be of the same gender, so don't be put off if you don't have a male partner who wishes to go with you- a female friend will do just as well.

Dance lessons are offered in many places

Dance can be undertaken at school as a subject, and even continued into University.

For especially talented dancers, there are special schools they may be accepted into, and even dance scholarships available, at tertiary institutions, or also some with ballet companies.

Dance classes may be offered through some local community centres.
