SPONSOR A CHILD
In the world today millions of children need help to survive and to have the very basics we take for granted, such as medical care, food, clean water, shelter and clothing.
Whether they are orphans without any family to take them in, or children whose parents are ill, disabled or just unable to earn enough to provide for them, without the help of a child sponsorship program, many of these children will die. And most of these deaths will be from totally preventable causes, such as starvation and easily treated illnesses.
Those who manage to stay alive may live lives of degradation and abuse, as prostitutes, virtual slaves or beggars- some families even resort to maiming a child by cutting of a hand or leg or by blinding, so that they will attract more pity (and therefore more money) when begging!
YOU can make a tremendous difference in a child's life by sponsorship.
As a child sponsor, a child will be provided with all necessities and the chance of an education, so that they can get a job and support themselves once they leave shool.
Many sponsorship programs also have a flow on effect to the child's community, helping with projects that will benefit many people, such as putting in a well, agricultural projects, and educational facilities.
Child sponsorship programs vary in payment costs- commonly around $1 a day, but some are substantially less, some a little more- and just what your sponsorship money covers. Some are Christian organisations, and often work with orphanages run by religious nuns or missionaries, others work within village communities.
Different programs also operate in different locations. Some have widespread programs in many countries, others only work in one country. (China, Burma, Vietnam etc)
Child sponsors usually receive photos and letters (often translated) from their child, plus updates about their educational progress. You are also able to write to your sponsored child.
If you feel that you can afford to give a child a real chance at life, then there is little that is more rewarding! You have the power to enable a child to develop his or her potential, learn to support their family, and to potentially break the poverty cycle for generations to come.
One very worthwhile organisation that arranges
child sponsorships is World Families Australia.
This is an Australian not for profit organisation, started in Adelaide SA. They have sponsorship programs in 10 different countries. Visit their website http://www.worldfamilies.org.au/index.htm
The internet offers an ideal way to research different child sponsorship organisations. Many of them also allow you to actually begin your sponsorship online, paying by direct debit or credit card.
Thank you for considering child sponsorship!
