GHOST RIDER -

Long ago, superstar motorcycle stunt rider Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage) made a deal with the devil to protect the ones he loved most: his father and his childhood sweetheart, Roxanne (Eva Mendes). Now, the devil has come for his due.

By day, Johnny is a die-hard stunt rider... but at night, in the presence of evil, he becomes the Ghost Rider, a bounty hunter of rogue demons.

Forced to do the devil's bidding, Johnny is determined to confront his fate and use his curse and powers to defend the innocent.

GHOST RIDER REVIEW

Ghost Rider is another one of those comic book stories being catapulted onto the big screen. It's one of those primary colour, larger than life romps where it's a requirement to leave your brain at the door.

From the very start, the dialogue and action is very cheesy and predictable (cliche) and the music is rocking.

I imagine for the large part of the demographic that will see this film, that is exactly what they want!

Nicolas Cage, who has won numerous awards throughout his illustrious career (these include Golden Globe and Oscar), doesn't exactly shine in this portrayal of a comic book hero. One gets the feeling that he did the film purely for the fun of it? but it doesn't show through when you watch it.

The movie is naturally littered with effect (sound and visual) but as part of the dissapointment I quite often found myself picking out flaws in the vfx. I'm not sure what the budget was for Ghost Rider, but it looks cheap (which means they may actually make a good return!)

Having said all that, the film is an entertaining romp as far as comic translations go, and will primarily be attractive to the teen boy demographic, though I would go so far as to say that I hope they make a sequel (to make up for this one :)

I really enjoyed Ghost Rider.  It's a good movie for kids my age. (12)  I liked the fact that it was shot in Melbourne, although I'm in Adelaide, but at least it's Australia.  Nicolas Cage is always good.  It was a great action film.  It's not recommended that you have your skull set on fire while riding a motorcycle or other motorised vehicle!  Don't try this at home!                      ~ Jhoodle ~

I didn't mind this movie.  It was a bit of fun... as long as you didn't try to take it too seriously!  Nicolas Cage was cool (well, hot, when he was on fire!) and I liked the young eveil devil guy.  I also liked the woman (from The Wedge) describing Ghost Rider's flaming head.  So dead pan.  Fun stuff.

NOTES

Did you know...

On Location: Most of the film was shot in Australia.

Continuity: When Johnny jumps over the helicopters, the stadium roof is open when the helicopters land, but closed when Johnny jumps over them less than a minute later. (It usually takes longer for the retractable roofs to close.)
